About our candles:
Each of our candles is handmade in Co. Cavan using the finest materials. The fragrance is undoubtedly the most important characteristic, and we've put a lot of consideration into bringing your favourite classic novel to life through the medium of scent.
The wax we use is a blend of natural rapeseed and coconut wax. This gives our candles a beautiful strong scent throw, a longer shelf-life, and it's better for the environment too. When sending out online orders, we pack candles carefully with compostable Pelaspan filling and recyclable boxes.
Here are some tips to get the most out of your Wordsmith candle...
Candle Care Advice
-
Store your candles out of sunlight when not in use. Discolouration may occur when exposed to UV rays for an extended period of time. It does not affect the burn quality and is just an aesthetic consideration.
-
Natural wax is just that...natural! With that comes all the variations mother nature intended, which means sometimes there are differences in colour, texture, finish, and to a lesser extent, scent, between batches. Each of our candles is lovingly handmade and is therefore unique.
-
If you notice any soot coming from your candle, it's usually because the wick is too long. It's important to trim your wick close to the surface of the wax before each burn (about 5mm), and after each subsequent burn. Carbon may build up on the wick while burning (mushrooming). You can trim mushrooms off when trimming the wick.
-
When lighting your candle for the first time, leave it lit for about 3-4 hours to ensure a full, even melt pool. If you blow it out too soon, 'tunnelling' may occur and wax will be wasted.
-
Never leave a candle burning for more than 4 hours, and never leave it unattended. Candles should only be burned on a stable, heat-proof surface, away from anything that can catch fire (e.g. curtains).
- Keep out of reach of children and pets at all times.
-
The candle container may become hot during use, do not touch it or move it! The wax will become liquid. When extinguishing your candle, it is advised to snuff it out rather than blowing it out. This is to prevent splashing hot wax.
-
Ensure the wick is upright, central, and above the wax before it resets. Make sure there is no debris in the melt pool (e.g. remnants of a matchstick) as this can be hazardous.
-
Our wax may reset with a crystallised or lumpy texture. This will not affect the quality of your burn. If you require a smooth reset, however, wait until the container is cool enough to touch, but the wax is still liquid. You can gently swirl the contents which will solidify the wax quickly and improve the reset texture.
-
When there is 1cm of wax left in the bottom of the container, extinguish the candle and do not relight. The bottom of the container will become too hot if you do not follow this step.

Our fragrances may contain allergens. All known allergens are listed on the underside of the candle packaging and on our product pages; please consult this list before purchase and/or using our candles. There are warnings associated with each allergen which may apply to you if you have asthma or other allergies.
